Quintal Nendran is the most common cultivar in Kerala. Fruits have a distinct neck with thick green skin turning to buff yellow on ripening. Fruits remain starchy upon ripening. Peel of the fruit is thick and leathery. This variety is important for processing. This plant has distinct pink coloration in pseudostem. Pulp of the fruit is fleshy, colored, fairly conspicuous, mild flavored, medium sweet. It is capable of producing 5-6 hands and 10-11 fingers consisting of 50-60 fruits per plant. Matured height of the Quintal Nendran King is 3m.

Water Management

During summer months, irrigate once in three days.

Banana var. Nendran (October planting) grown under deep water table conditions (below 2 m from ground level) needs 10 mm (40 l/plant) irrigation once in two days during summer season to ensure higher bunch yield and better water use efficiency. Mulching the basin with 3.5 kg paddy straw (waste quality) will considerably improve the bunch yield.
